Week Six Preview: Cross-Town Rivalry Revived, and All That Jazz

Hello Knicks Gaming, our old friend; we’ve come to play against you again.

The NBA 2K League’s Subway Series once again emerges from its subterranean lair as NetsGC takes on Knicks Gaming on Friday, May 24, at 8 pm EST. it’s a rematch of NetsGC’s first-ever NBA 2K League game, a 55-49 win over Knicks Gaming at THE TIPOFF.  Then, both teams came in with clean slates for the season, but now, nearly halfway through the year, things are looking a little different.

NetsGC (3-4) has a chance to improve to .500 on the season with a win, while Knicks Gaming (1-4) needs a win to stay afloat in the playoff race. In week five, NetsGC defeated fellow expansion team Lakers Gaming 67-57 in overtime to snap a four-game losing streak, while Knicks Gaming had a bye week after THE TURN Tournament in Las Vegas.

Last week, NetsGC deployed a new lineup featuring Joel “Lav” Lazu at point guard and Isaiah “Wavy.zay” Hancock at small forward. The switch paid off, as Lav finished with 13 points and 9 assists and Wavy.zay scored a game-high 23 points. Getting wholehearted production from both ballhandlers will pay off in every game, especially against Knicks Gaming, who have struggled against the league’s top offenses this season.

After facing Knicks Gaming, NetsGC once again slots into the Friday nightcap, where the team will take on Jazz Gaming (4-3) at 10 pm EST. The Jazz carried a three-game regular-season win streak into last Friday, but were felled 66-52 by Wizards District Gaming.

No. 2 expansion draft pick Nate “NateKahl” Kahl, fresh off a game against his 2018 team, will have his hands full guarding Shaka “Yeah I Compete” Browne, the third overall pick in the 2018 draft. NetsGC will also have to contend with Spencer “Ria” Wyman, the first overall pick in the 2019 entry draft. Jazz Gaming is the only NBA 2K League team with multiple top-three draft picks on its roster.
