NetsGC Vaults Into Playoff Race With Two-Win Week

Two wins, zero losses. How’s that for a night’s work?

That’s the record with which NetsGC walked out of the NBA 2K League Studio on Friday night, improving its record to 5-4 with wins over Knicks Gaming (1-6) and Jazz Gaming (4-4).

Early Friday night, NetsGC took on Knicks Gaming in the NBA 2K League’s second-ever Subway Series matchup. NetsGC emerged victorious in the first-ever meeting of the crosstown foes, a 55-49 triumph in THE TIPOFF, powered by AT&T, and furthered its advantage in the all-time series with a 70-66 win in week six.

NetsGC replicated its lineup adjustment—Lav at point guard, Wazy.zay at small forward—and with it the team’s success from week five. Lav once again exploded, leading the team with 21 points and 12 assists. Shockey, starting at center, balanced the lineup with 18 points (a personal season high) and 11 rebounds. The team shot a sparkling 67% (28-42) from the field, but its strength showed most defensively, as NateKahl, Shuttles, and Shockey all recorded four steals apiece.

In the Friday nightcap, NetsGC felled 2019 No. 1 overall pick Ria and Jazz Gaming 71-65. The team carried the game with a strong second-half surge, outscoring Jazz Gaming by eight after halftime. All five NetsGC players scored in double figures, with Lav once again leading the way with 17 points and 12 assists. Most impressively, the team committed only six turnovers while forcing the Jazz into 13 turnovers.

It’s a team win or a team loss, and NetsGC has two more team wins to tack onto the win column. Not too bad for one night’s work.

On the Horizon: The team has a bye in week seven before taking on THE TIPOFF champs 76ers GC (4-3) in week eight. By virtue of posting a 3-0 record between THE TURN and THE TICKET Tournaments, powered by AT&T, NetsGC has positioned itself favorably for a high seed in THE TICKET, whose winner earns an automatic playoff berth.
